This week's report by Zine World's Jerianne
"ZINE WORLD: A NEW ISSUE!"
For 10 years, Zine World has given you honest, quality reviews of
zines, comics and loads of other independently produced media. We
have tried to draw attention to those who attempt to stomp out free
speech and try to give a voice to those of you whom the mainstream
media tend to ignore. Over the years, we've rarely stuck to a regular
publishing schedule -- hey, we are a zine, after all! -- and it's been a
while since we've managed to publish 3 issues per year, as is our
ideal. But 10 years! That's, what, 100 in zine years??
A full decade has passed since we started our little rag. A lot has
changed. The "zine revolution" withdrew into the overlooked corners
of society, surpassed by the "internet revolution." Nowadays,
everyone and her brother has a website, a blog, or some other kind of
online presence. Many have cried out "zines are dead." One look in
our mailbox during any given week will tell you that simply is not
true. Day after day, we receive new issues of old favorites mixed
with new titles by seasoned zinesters interspersed with first issues by
people of all ages who have found their way into our zine
community.
We still think there is a place for Zine World in the zine world. And
we'll keep publishing as long as there is.
After taking an unannounced leave-of-absence from zining last year
(sorry about that; having a baby kept me too busy), I'm happy to
announce that a new, full-size issue of Zine World is in the works.
We're in the process of putting it all together right now. We're
hoping for a June release -- we promise to tell you the very minute it
goes to press.
While I was busy playing house, a few of our staff wandered off to
pursue other projects, leaving us a bit short-handed. We could really
use your help! We are currently looking for volunteers to:
Write Reviews -- You love zines. You can write. So write reviews for
us. We've got a bunch of zines here just waiting for a reviewer to
take them in, read them, and give them a good home. You get free
zines; you give us your honest assessment about the zine. It's just
that simple! Interested? Please email some sample reviews to
jerianne@undergroundpress.org to audition.
Write News -- We know you love our news section. We need your
help to keep it alive. We've scoured the mainstream media and other
sources for news about oppression of free speech / free press, privacy
invasions, publishing, how your government is trying to fuck you
over, and so forth. We need your help to craft those source articles
into the biting and incisive news section Zine World is so well known
for. Interested? Please email a sample of your writing and a
description of your writing / editing abilities to

As for the rest of you, we'd like to offer a little appetizer to
(hopefully) hold you over until the full course arrives -- we've
compiled another batch of reviews-between-issues, which you can

These 100+ reviews would have appeared in ZW #23, if it had been
published last fall, as we had originally planned.
